BLEACH GIRL(A POEM WRITTEN BY AKINADE GRACE ADERONKE :GRAYZO)

BLEACH GIRL
you are so ashamed of being black
that you taint flesh until it wears out and cracks
you are so ashamed of your motherland and your race
that each night you try to erase it
to leave only a trace
your cream will remove “blemish and thing of that kind”
your only blemish
“bleach girl is your feeble mind”
what are you trying to prove?
what are you trying to show?
where are you coming from and where do you want to go?
if you want to be white leave and go west
where you will still be a nigger
despite your creams and the rest
bleach girl, you think you are modern
a real super fly but modern Africa
can really get by without you and your kind
you are the new lepers of today
with a hides us disease
wasting your soul away
you cannot escape now
your pale face must last or tell-tale
blotches will creep back from your
past
bleach girl you are trapped in a narrow cul-de-sac
whether you believe it or not
BABY YOU ARE BLACK
